Thursday May 27, 2021 - Eighth week of Ordinary Time - I am the light of the world, says the Lord. Whoever follows me will have the light of life - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 10, 46-52
When we pray, we are used to asking prayer. In fact, what is our human strength without God's help? Indeed, Jesus passes through our life, but do we realize his passage and call him as the blind Bartimaeus did? The latter saw his imperfection and asked Jesus: "Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!"
God's mercy is very precious and it transforms us into a new face far from sin. Sometimes some obstacles prevent us from receiving his mercy, as happened to Bartimaeus. Many people forbade him to call the name of Jesus; it is as if they did not want Jesus to free this man from his shackles. Isn't that what happens to us in our life when someone asks us for help? Most only think about their own interests and do not see the pain of others.
Not everyone does this, there are those who want to help: those who called Bartimaeus after Jesus said "call him". They say to him, "Trust, get up, he's calling you." From that moment Bartimaeus gained confidence and threw off his cloak and made an effort to run to Jesus. When we feel the call of Jesus, immediately we are available to let go of all our habits and behaviors that are not in accordance with the Christian life to welcome the new life in Christ. In fact, Jesus already knew what Bartimaeus wanted of him: healing. But he wanted whoever seeks him to express his desire for a new state. “What do you want me to do for you?” He said to Bartimaeus. "Let me see," the blind man said. This response was precious to Jesus, for it was from this that he was able to declare that it was faith that saved this blind man.
Trust in Jesus the Savior frees us from any type of blindness in our life. Our soul is blind when we fail to see the needs of the smallest and those who have no one to defend them, when we ignore the poor, and we use our human strengths and powers to oppress the poor. So let's do like Bartimaeus who began to implore Jesus, so that he grants our soul sight and truly be worthy of being a child of God.
