Tuesday May 4, 2021 - Fifth week of Paschal Time - Christ had to suffer and rise from the dead to enter into glory - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 14, 27-31a

When we receive this extract from the Gospel, we have Ascension Day in mind. After his resurrection, Christ promises the apostles peace. Peace to erase from the heart, anxiety and fear.

Just like in our life, when we leave, we leave a message, a recommendation. This message is well preserved and well observed. Likewise, Christ did much more for his intimate disciples. "I am going, and coming back to you." It is not a separation that causes grief and despair, but a separation that gives rise to the hope of a future reunion.

The apostles are like us, so Jesus knows what is in our hearts, God knows who we are; he understands that we are easily disappointed and distressed. God knows what he is doing and is quick to pick us up from our weaknesses, so he seeks all means for us to trust and rely on him. God has done everything for us, but it is who are insensitive to his wonders.

Until Christ returns in glory to judge us, God wants us to love one another and be one. The sacraments and the Church are the means left by God: as manna or the ark for which makes us hope for eternal happiness with him.

With you, we take up Mary's song: ‘My soul exalts the Lord’ and we repeat with her: ‘What shall I repay the Lord for all the good he has done me?’....
