Tuesday March 30, 2021 - Holy Tuesday - Hail, O Christ, our King: obedient to the Father; like the lamb to the slaughterhouse, you let yourself be led to the cross - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 13, 21-33. 36-38
Dear Christians! Jesus shared a last meal with his disciples, a true fraternal meal. He does not hesitate to share with them his sorrow, and the turmoil of his heart, because some of his disciples will come his sufferings. The weakness of Jesus' disciples is highlighted here through Judas and Peter. Judas is constantly put forward during Holy Week to remind us of the many attitudes or practices that we should avoid because they do not show love, but cause suffering which can even result in the death of others.
Whatever we do, we cannot hide it from God, who knows our hearts and is never a stranger to our innermost intentions, even if those around us know nothing about it. Here Jesus is simply saying that one of the disciples will betray him, but some of the disciples reacted differently when He said to Judas, "Do what you have to do quickly." He specified that Judas will betray him, as for Peter who swore not to leave him, he declared that he will deny him three times. Judas betrayed Jesus out of selfishness, while for Peter it was out of fear of sharing his fate. It is greed and attachment to earthly things that cause us to reject God and not go His way. It is out of greed that some do all kinds of bad deeds: telling lies, taking advantage of the weak, and even killing. It does not seem to occur to them that life on earth is only a passage, a preparation for eternal life which is real. Also, let us constantly examine our conscience, identify and combat our weaknesses and bad habits, and let us not be afraid to die with Jesus for the salvation of our soul.
O God, as we look forward to Easter, teach us to seek eternal life. And even if we use the money and riches of this world, let us use them with wisdom and righteousness. Also help us not to hesitate to give our life for You. Amen!
