Sunday February 28, 2021 - Second Sunday of Lent - From the luminous cloud, the voice of the Father resounded: "This is my beloved Son, listen to him!" - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 9, 2-10
During this Lent we are invited to continue our journey serenely towards Easter. Two events will help us make this journey: Abraham and the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
During our journey, it is certain that we will encounter difficulties and the example of Abraham can help us. Abraham’s sacrifice invites us to be generous in the face of God's request. These gestures express our faith in God; our trust in the One who promises to save us through his Son. Being generous also means being ready to let go of our own plan and expectations that conform to our personal desires. It can be said that only a confident and generous person can walk towards Easter. Saint Paul the apostle, in his letter to the Romans, adds that this person is not afraid of anything, because he believes that God, who has shown him his love by offering his Son, is with him.
Meditating on the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ also helps us to walk the journey of Lent. If we have noticed, the three disciples (Peter, James and John) had the privilege of attending the extraordinary events of their Master: the resurrection of the daughter of Jairus; the episode of Gethsemane and the Transfiguration. These three moments are interdependent: Jesus manifested his power in the face of death when he resurrected the daughter of Jairus; in Gethsemane He indicates to us, the cross as the way to the Resurrection; in the Transfiguration He confirms the validity of this path. To walk towards Easter, the Transfiguration illuminates us. Even if it does not exempt us from the difficulties that we may encounter along the way, it encourages us by showing us the result of our journey.
The last means that can help us move forward serenely and seriously towards the Resurrection is the voice of God, indicating to us his Son: "This is my beloved son; listen to him". It is by listening to Jesus Christ that we will arrive at Easter.
