Wednesday February 10, 2021 - Fifth week in ordinary time - Your word, Lord, is truth; in this truth, sanctify us - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 7, 14-23
Brothers and sisters, just a few days ago the Gospel pointed out that a large crowd came to Jesus of their own accord, but here it is Jesus himself who calls people to come to him. We can thus say that coming to Jesus is both a commitment and a response to God's call. Moreover, He affirmed it said in Saint John 6, 44: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day".
Here, therefore, God inspires people to listen to Jesus, to make them understand that it is neither food nor drink that defiles a person. Eating fish, pork, or any other type of food does not make us unclean in the sight of God. The Scriptures are clear on this point. For example, in 1Tim 4, 3-5, "All that God has created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if taken in thanksgiving, for then it is sanctified by the word of God. and prayer ". These are foods, created by God to be eaten in thanksgiving by those who are believers and fully know the truth. The only thing that should not be forgotten is prayer and thanksgiving to God.
Everyone, even if there are no prohibitions on food and drink, must sort out what may or may not be good for health. This is why Saint Paul in 1 Cor 10,23 says: "Everything is permitted, they say, but I say: All is not good. Everything is permitted, but all is not constructive". Brothers and sisters, do not waste our time bickering over what is only incidental. Rather, let us strive to have a heart that is self-respecting, worthy, open to all and above all entirely inclined to God.
