Tuesday, January 26, 2021 - Third week in ordinary time — Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, you have revealed to the little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom! - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 3, 31-35
For us humans, only those who have a blood tie, a family tie, can be of the same family. In this Gospel, Jesus extends the dimension of this family. Those who do the will of God are for Him, His mother, His brothers and sisters. So seeking to do God's will is the key to becoming his brother, member of his family. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the model par excellence in the accomplishment of the will of God. The proof is her consent to be the Mother of Jesus by answering "yes" to the message of God delivered by the Archangel Gabriel. The prayer that the disciples learned from Jesus, and that we take up every day, speaks of this fulfillment of God's will: "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven".
Among those who sought to meet Jesus here were his mother and those called his brothers; they want to see Him and be seen by Him. This is not abnormal, because Jesus is their relative, it is natural to love your parents, and it is safe to say that having it is a blessing for your family. But they did not want a public meeting, they sent a messenger "Here is your mother and your brothers are out there looking for you." This approach reflects that they do not consider Jesus as the Savior of the world and of all men; they don't want to mix with the crowd listening to Jesus' words.
Becoming a relative to Jesus is neither difficult nor painful: to be his mother, to be his brother, to be his sister; it is enough to be prepared to do the will of God. And the will of God is none other than piety, charity and love of neighbor. "Love one another as I have loved you" is moreover a word of Jesus that he erected in command. It takes courage and determination to follow Jesus, a decision to accept him as a close relative, making us family with him. It is in the Church that we become his brothers, his sisters because it is there that we become children of God the Father, joint heirs with Christ Jesus his Son. Amen!
