Thursday, January 7, 2021 - Thursday after the Epiphany - The Lord sent me to bring the Good News to the poor, to proclaim to the captives their release - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 4, 14-22a

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the Good News", this word was indeed fulfilled in the life of Jesus Christ in his mission. The Spirit of the Lord is in Jesus and He has passed it on to those who believe in Him.

Thus, the first mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel to all. Saint Paul says: "Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel". When we listen to the word of God, let us not consider it as human words, but a word that has the power to change our hearts. God speaks to us not only in our ears but above all in our hearts. Thus, the word of God is an inexhaustible wealth. The good news for us is salvation, and it is God's word that helps us to obtain it.

The Church gives us the word of God every day to help us obtain salvation, and Jesus always answers us: "Today the Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears", recalling the response of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the Archangel Gabriel: "May all things happen to me according to your word". In order for the word of God to act in our lives, we must go beyond the human in us, as some Jews did to Jesus: "Is this not the son of Joseph?", all they saw was only what is human in Jesus, completely omitting his divinity. Thus, all the words that Jesus spoke irritated and offended them. Let us remember then that when we listen to the word of God, it is God Himself who speaks to us.
