Tuesday, January 5, 2021 - Tuesday after the Epiphany - The Lord sent me to bring the Good News to the poor, to proclaim to the captives their release - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 34-44

In this Gospel we see Jesus both teaching the word of God and feeding the people. Let us note that He first taught before feeding. This reminds us of the Holy Eucharist that we celebrate: we hear the word of God before going to the Eucharistic table.

So the first thing we must do as Christians is to live the word of God and meditate on it in our lives and in our hearts. The word of God is always alive and should lead us to conversion. Therefore, it is not enough to listen to it, but to always keep in mind how to put it into practice. Of course, it is difficult to understand the word of God and it always needs explanations so that we can live it. But the Church, through the homilies of the priests and the catechism, gives us its faithful and authentic meaning.

The second thing that we Christians must do is to share what little we have, as Jesus did for the crowd: five loaves of bread and two fish. At present, the food that He gives us is His Body and Blood in the Eucharist, He comes into our hearts and dwells in us. Then Jesus feeds us with His Word and His Body, so that we may always be in communion with Him. He is indeed the Word made flesh for us, that is to say, he is both the Word of life and the bread of life. In Him we can therefore have eternal life.
