Monday, December 28, 2020 - The Holy Innocents, Martyrs - To you, God, our praise! You, the Lord, we acclaim you, to whom the martyrs bear witness - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 2, 13-18

Even before Herod had the innocent children killed, God had ordered Joseph to flee to Egypt. God protects his child, not by a miracle, but by warning Joseph in the silence of the dream, so that the words of the prophet would be fulfilled: "From Egypt I have called my son", as when Israel left Egypt for the Promised Land, from bondage to freedom. However, Christ is not a man to be set free but the Liberator, He was born to lift us from the heavy yoke.

Let us remember that it is neither the learned nor the powerful, like Herod, who will have the last word, but those who are able to listen and trust in God as St. Joseph did. No one can ever change or thwart God's plan and salvation.

However, there are always victims, scapegoats, enduring trials and injustices, witnesses who show our human resistance to God's plan of salvation, but the time will come because God will not let his children suffer in vain. Honour and power lead to discrimination and sometimes to murder. Christ became man to teach us and share with us the nature of God. Let us take Him as an example.

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
