Thursday, December 17, 2020 - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 1, 1-17 - Come, wisdom of the Most High! You who rule the universe with strength and gentleness, teach us the way of truth.

From today's Gospel, three points can be made: first, we have just heard the enumeration of a line of forebears, ancestors and generations. Taken as a whole, this seems to remind us of the theme that the Church gives us every 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time in year B: despite the ramifications and expansions, we, with our ancestors in faith, have only one root, and that is God.

Secondly, it also means that the coming of Jesus is neither myth nor fiction, and that He is truly begotten, not created. God has overwhelmed humanity by accepting to live among us humans in humane conditions.

Thirdly, we can say that the three times fourteen consecutive generations mentioned in today's Gospel are not only the ancestors of Jesus, but also the ancestors of all the generations after and to come, of which we are part, because through baptism we are brothers with Jesus.

God, You order everything according to Your will, the patriarchs who have perpetuated Your work of creation, that we may experience the mystery of salvation. Amen!
