Friday 13 November 2020 - 32nd week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17, 26-37 - Rise up and lift up your heads, for your redemption is at hand.
Dear Christians! As the Church moves towards the end of the liturgical year, the Word of God also draws our attention to the end. What has begun must come to an end. On the other hand, Jesus' journey, as mentioned here on Wednesday, is heading towards Jerusalem; that is to say, Jesus is approaching the end of his earthly journey and that is why he speaks of the end of the world. Every time we announce the end of something, it seems to give us a warning: a death notice, a murderous and devastating catastrophe... it tells us that we are limited and vulnerable just like everything around us and everything visible. It makes us think about how we will end, how this generation will end. Jesus calls us to always think about the end that will be unexpected. We are so caught up in everyday life that we never think about it. Jesus gives us three examples; three historical examples: the flood, the destruction of Sodom in the time of Lot and the destruction of the city by fire and brimstone. The current situation we are experiencing with the Covid-19 epidemic, which has killed so many people so far, seems to be a sign for the world.
In this time, of which we know neither the exact time nor the exact day, we must always be ready to face it. There is no time to lose even a single second. What will happen will not allow us to do this or that, what could not be done in its time will no longer be done. Salvation is so individual, so let us be prepared not to be caught off guard because what is happening now seems to indicate that end.
