Life is a gift from God and Jesus teaches us how to live, because this life is only a passage to eternal life. He therefore asks us to do two things: the first is to carry the cross, which does not mean enduring misery all the time. What He wants is that we free ourselves from bad habits and turn away from our will to enter into God's will. The second is self-denial, which is already for us a cross that we carry with love. It is therefore not easy to come to Jesus Christ. It is good to note that He never commanded that we should not love father, mother or children; rather, it is for them that we should increase our love, but that they should not be obstacles to following Him. Therefore, in our lives, Jesus must have priority above all else.

Thus, Jesus calls us to be vigilant by following the example of that man who wants to build a tower or that king who is preparing to go to war against another king, mentioned in the Gospel. We must reflect before making the right decision to follow Jesus for fear of becoming discouraged along the way. Distancing ourselves from all things is therefore imperative in order to follow Jesus.

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
