Monday, September 28, 2020 - 26th week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 46-50 - The Son of Man came to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for the multitude.

Dear Christians, Jesus has just announced the end of his life. The apostles were then worried about who would be the greatest to lead them all, once Jesus had gone. It is almost natural for everyone to want to be great, to want to be respected, to want to be a leader, to want to be powerful. It sounds like a struggle for power... But it is also a temptation, which we must guard against, because any human being can succumb to it in different ways.

A major reform of Jesus' teaching is the permutation of values. A total reversal. Who is the greatest? It is the one who accepts to be small. Who is the master? He is the one who serves. Jesus gives children as models for those who seek the kingdom of Heaven. Humility, not claiming to possess anything to be proud of. Simple, just and confident. Salvation is offered to all, and it is not the business of a few either, which is why the Second Vatican Council says: prayers, works of charity and efforts for justice can be a breath of the Holy Spirit, even if it comes from those who are not of the Christian faith. There is therefore no reason to erect walls of segregation and discrimination. Saint Paul says: when Christ is proclaimed, it is enough, because the goal is the salvation of all. Amen.
