Saturday 29th August 2020 - 21st week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 25, 14-30 - I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: "Love one another, as I have loved you".
What is a faithful servant according to this Gospel?
Being prepared or behaving well is not enough to say that one is a faithful servant, but today's Gospel emphasises the need to cultivate the talents that have been given to us. It is therefore clear from this Gospel that the relationship of the Christian with Christ is not closed, but a risky life, a total commitment to a life of faith without worrying about what may happen, but always ready to move forward whatever happens. It is not enough to pray but to commit oneself to the service of God through others, among the hungry, the sick and the imprisoned.
The Christian who buries his talents is therefore a lazy Christian, indifferent to the sufferings of others. We must understand that the Christian is not self-sufficient, but must open up and offer himself to others. He is designed to produce his gifts through service to others. Let us not be lethargic and lazy, but Christians who spread goodness and love through commitment.
