Monday, August 03, 2020 - 18th week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 14, 22-36 - Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!!

There are many things that can be raised in this Gospel, but there are four things that need to be emphasized.

First of all, when you are with Jesus, no one leaves empty-handed. We have heard him say, "Only after people have eaten and are full are they sent away". So, our state before and after going to church should never be the same, because after meeting God, we should be filled with grace.

Second, it is not surprising that the disciples in the boat did not immediately recognize Jesus. The reason is that the scene took place between three and six o'clock in the morning. They were still sleepy and it was still dark. Moreover, it is rare, if not impossible, to see anyone walking on the water. But there is a lesson to be passed on to us, and that is this: the sea, in the Scriptures, represents or symbolizes evil and darkness. Thus, Jesus' actions show that he can overcome the forces of evil, and that God controls nature. Thus, in the face of the uncertainties of life in which there is no light, and in the face of things that are frightening and disturbing, trust in Me," he said, "do not be afraid.

Thirdly, we are only human, and we cannot claim to be perfect in our trust in God; thus, when we begin to sink, like Peter, the best and most urgent thing is to reach out or call the Lord. He will reach out his hand. That is to say, in the face of all kinds of problems, trials and tribulations, let us not allow ourselves to be distracted elsewhere. In Jesus we are covered, but we must reach out to Him.

Finally, if only touching His clothes allows healing, how many more graces will we receive, we who are in communion with Him in the Eucharist?
