Once again, Jesus speaks in parable, his goal is that his audience be active in seeking to understand and assimilate the deep meaning of the message. This is the parable of the sower. Some seeds fell on the roadside and were immediately pecked by the birds. Others, fallen on rocky ground, grow but wither quickly, not finding soil to take root. Still others, fallen on thorny ground, grow but cannot flourish because they are tangled in the thorns. And finally, others have fallen on fertile ground and bear fruit.

This parable reflects the proclamation of the Kingdom of God. The first and principal sower is Jesus. We have heard from time to time that some people did not want to receive this announcement of the Kingdom of God following the example of the scribes, the Parisians and Jesus' countrymen. On the other hand, others in foreign lands the proclamation of the Kingdom of God is accepted and has borne fruit. Announcing the Kingdom of God requires perseverance and above all humility. All of us, baptized and bearing the name of Christians, have the duty to continue this mission that Jesus initiated. The earth on which we must sow is the heart of man so that he may repent and win salvation. We do not work alone, but are accompanied and guided by the Holy Spirit. We may fail, but that is no reason to give up; and if we do succeed we should not be proud, because it is above all the work of Jesus.

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
