After Christ taught his disciples how to follow him and fulfill his mission, Matthew gives us in this passage Jesus' harsh words against those who refuse to believe him. He declares that living and proclaiming the gospel is not a game and cannot be taken lightly.

Jesus shows that He is neither helpless nor powerless in the face of the unbelief of those who listen to Him. It is true that man is free and can choose whether or not to obey God, but Christ has already done everything, even to the point of giving his life, for man's repentance and redemption. It is therefore legitimate that He should be a little hard, to the point of cursing those who refuse to believe. At every moment God never ceases to grant us good; and at every moment we have the possibility of seeking His will and entrusting our lives to Him.

This teaching of Christ helps us to become aware of our indifference towards God. This teaching allows us to glimpse the end of our life. Therefore, let us take advantage of the little time we have to receive Christ's message and to conform to His will.
