Friday, June 12, 2020 - Tenth week of Ordinary Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 5, 27-32 - You shine like stars in the universe holding fast the word of life.
A simple glance does not engage," joked the young people, and a well-known artist said that "it is the very nature of the eyes to desire. Fortunately, Jesus clearly stated: the eye is the light of the body, and it is not the external things that make a man unclean, but the things of his heart, such as fornication and adultery . So it is with God's sixth commandment that Jesus teaches us today in the Gospel.
"Do not commit adultery". According to one thinker, the more a person is forbidden something, the more he wants to experience it. When you tease the spirit, it gets carried away. This whole question of adultery is a matter of concern to people of all ages and all walks of life. Christ's message to remember is: it is the eyes, when looking, that stir up envy in the heart, desire engenders decision making and ignites carnal attraction. The passage to action spreads and submerges in the unfathomable abyss of mortal sin, which goes against the will of the Creator and the precepts of the Church.
Christian brothers and sisters, adultery can take many forms, but the reason why God forbids it is that it is the cause of many harmful effects, among them: the proliferation of diseases, but there is also the violation of the rights and dignity of the other, the desecration of the divine blessing that makes man a co-creator. Let us remember, we are God's Temple, holy and sacred, so let us not give Satan our being but let us be witnesses of God's love. Jesus, we are flesh and blood beings, so help us to control ourselves, not to fall into the trap of fleshly desire, but to preserve the purity and innocence of heart. Amen.
