Today, the Church celebrates St. Matthias, Apostle and recalls the teaching of Christ so that the disciples may bear witness to the virtues, conditions for following him. In fact, Matthias had and lived these virtues, it is only natural that he was chosen to take the place of Judas so that the 12 stones, the foundation of the Church of Christ, would not be lacking.

Saint Matthias was not one of the twelve, directly called by Christ, but he lived the commandment of love by fulfilling his mission in Judea. With faith and zeal he bore much fruit in converting many people to Christ.

Having experienced martyrdom in 63, Matthias, like the other apostles, honoured the commandment: "There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's loved ones". Like Matthias, we are called "friends" by Christ and are chosen by the baptism we have received, to this commandment of love, let us dare to bear fruit.
