Thursday, May 07, 2020 - Fourth week of Easter Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 13, 16-20 - Jesus Christ, faithful witness, firstborn from the dead, you love us, and by your blood you deliver us from sin.

esus' mission is to save mankind. He taught us about God the Father who sent him. Humble and loving, He showed us the way of love, forgiveness and mutual service. Long before Jesus, many prophets were sent to bring the word of God to men so that they might change and receive the Gospel, just as the prophet Jeremiah was sent in the Old Testament for this purpose, but men did not receive him. Finally, Jesus came to proclaim the word of God, but again men did not want to believe Him.

Faced with such a refusal, Jesus is categorical: "If anyone receives the one I send, he receives me". Whether it is Him, Jesus, or those whom He sends to continue His mission, they all transmit God's message. "A servant is not greater than his master, nor a messenger greater than the one who sends him", says Jesus, so we are called to receive the message of these envoys because it is God's message and they come from God.

Lord Jesus, always send the strength and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit to those whom You call to proclaim Your Gospel; help us to receive them well.

The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth
