Wednesday, April 29, 2020 - Third week of Easter Time - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St. John 6, 35-40 - He who sees the Son and believes in him has eternal life, says the Lord; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Jesus is the one and only true bread of eternal life. He is God's sent into the world for our salvation, we who have died in sin. He who believes in this comes from God, and he who comes from God will not be lost, for it is God's will that all men should inherit eternal life.

Through His word, Jesus shows us the way to the Father, and He gives Himself to us as the food for the vigor of the soul and faith. It is in the Eucharist that we will find this spiritual nourishment. It is in the Eucharist that we will find the ardour of faith and the zeal necessary to conform ourselves to the words of Jesus.

When we take communion without the intention of putting his words into practice, nothing differentiates us from the crowd that "sees without believing". To believe is not only to listen to the word but also, and especially, to conform to it by practice. This is what guarantees eternal life. God's will is that we live our faith constantly, so that we may be continually under his grace and that none may be lost.
