Thursday, April 09, 2020 - Holy Thursday - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 13, 1-15 - I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: "Love one another as I have loved you".
Holy Thursday. We enter into the Easter Triduum, in communion with the whole Church. Two messages are to be found in today's Gospel: First, Jesus who begins to wash the feet of the disciples. Then, Jesus institutes the sacrament of the Eucharist.
Jesus washing the feet of the disciples is for them and for us too, an example: we must help ourselves. The greatest must be at the service of all. Let us recall the words of Pope Francis when he was elected on March 13, 2013: "True power is service". It is necessary to serve one another, and Christ gave the example of this, it is one of the paths that lead us to heaven.
Secondly, Jesus instituted the Sacrament of the Eucharist during the Holy Communion, the last meal he had with his disciples. A meal that unites, the meal of the pilgrim who makes provision for it in order to journey towards eternal life.
