Thursday, February 20, 2020 — Sixth week of Ordinary time — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 8, 27-30 — Your words, Lord, are spirit and they are life. You have the words of eternal life.
This passage which is "Peter's profession of faith" can be considered the centre of Mark's Gospel, it is from here that the disciples begin to understand who Jesus really is (Mk 1,1): The Messiah, not according to people's expectations, but the Messiah who must fulfil God's plan, who must suffer his passion, pass through death and rise again.
It is Peter, through his credo, who announce publicly "you are the christ", he who is anointed by the Lord. Jesus is Messiah according to God's will, He announces Himself his death and his resurrection so that the salvation of human may be accomplished, and it is by this way that those who follow him must also pass. This is the way of humility through which God expresses his extreme love for humanity.
The Cross of Christ must be a source of pride for us, who are in a row. It is not only to endure trials as Christians but above all to trust more in the power of God. Let us contemplate his Cross and our hope will be well-rooted.
