Monday, February 10, 2020 — Fifth week of Ordinary Time — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 6, 53-56 — Jesus proclaimed the Gospel of the Kingdom and healed every infirmity in the people.
Let's put this passage in context, just before, Jesus had just multiplied five pieces of bread and two fish to feed 5000 men, not counting women and children. He had just performed a miracle, so He did not go unnoticed and was recognized by his contemporaries. Alas, 2000 years after His coming, there are still many who do not know Him or do not want to know Him even though He is the "highest", He is the "irreplaceable" and He is constantly among us.
When he came, he never spared himself, roaming over mountains and plains. The proclamation of the Gospel, the salvific mission knows no rest. For this mission He set himself as an example: going out, walking, visiting, getting closer... these are his ways. And in doing so, He "cured every infirmity". He knows our weaknesses; it is up to us to expose them to Him. His contemporaries begged to be able to touch the fringe of his mantle in order to heal, but now we are fortunate enough to be able not only to touch Him but to commune with Him.
