Sunday, March 13, 2022 — Second Sunday of Lent — From the luminous cloud, the voice of the Father resounded: "This is my beloved Son, listen to him!" — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 9, 28b-36
We have barely begun the period of Lent, and now we are already invited to contemplate the mystery of the Transfiguration. But why is that?
Answering this question is not easy, but let's try to answer another question: "For whom is the Mystery of the Transfiguration?"
This mystery is first of all for Jesus Christ, because the Transfiguration reveals to Him his identity and his destiny so that He can bravely and with conviction face his mission of salvation. Then, the Transfiguration is a pedagogical orientation for all the disciples of Jesus Christ, since thanks to this mystery, Peter and his companions, on the one hand, knew that Jesus is the Lord of glory, the Master and the Son -loved by the Father. Thanks to this mystery, the three disciples, witnesses of the event, knew that Jesus their Master has the mission of prophet par excellence (prophet Elijah) and authentic legislator (Moses). And on the other hand, they witnessed the anticipation of the exaltation of the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ, just when they felt disappointed after hearing from the mouth of their Master the revelation on his Passion and the Cross.
Finally, the mystery of the Transfiguration warns us of two temptations of the apostle Peter. The first is this: wanting to achieve happiness and salvation without going through sacrifice and death on the cross. In the second temptation, Peter wanted to limit salvation to the elect only, when he suggested that Jesus make the three Tents.
