Monday, February 28, 2022 — Eighth week of Ordinary Time — Jesus Christ made himself poor, he who was rich, so that you might become rich through his poverty — Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark 10, 17-30

“Good Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” is an essential question that we must ask ourselves every day. To have eternal life is the first desire that the Christian should have in his heart. Especially since God has already inscribed this desire in each of us, but it is up to us to awaken it at every moment, so that it takes first place in our hearts. To do this, we are invited to make sustained efforts to keep God's teaching.

Certainly, this man has kept the law of God since his youth, but his conscience cannot be easy. He is always worried about not doing well, not doing enough of what God has recommended to him. It was because of this desire that Jesus fixed his gaze on him and loved him. And he said to him: "One thing you lack: go, sell what you have and give it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven, then, come, follow me."

It is clear to us what Jesus expects of us: to give up everything that attracts our hearts and turn our gaze to him. When Jesus calls us, his first requirement is that we deny ourselves, our own will and trust in him. Also, we, who have already received the grace to follow him, are we still making efforts to maintain our relationship with Christ and to strengthen our trust in him?
