Minister Ranarivelo Lucien with his close collaborators came to see firsthand the operating methods of the slaughterhouse of Ampasika, in the District of Antananarivo Atsimondrano, on Monday April 26, 2021, in the face of cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF), reported in five regions of Madagascar.
The Minister wished to reassure the cattle, sheep and goat breeders, because there has not yet been any contamination in the Analamanga region. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, livestock technicians are deploying all means to best contain the epidemic; and that beef, sheep and goat meats remain fit for consumption as long as they pass hygiene controls and leave regulatory slaughterhouses.
Since the onset of the disease, 1,005 animals, including cattle, sheep and goats, have died from it and this is spread over five regions including: Alaotra Mangoro, Atsimo Andrefana, Atsinanana, Diana and Vatovavy Fitovinany. According to Minister Ranarivelo Lucien, the epidemic is under control and cases of contamination are in marked decline.
The number of slaughterings at the Ampasika slaughterhouse has increased from 800 to 500 zebu per week since the outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in Madagascar, although there have not yet been a reported case in the slaughterhouses of the capital. This absence of cases is also confirmed by Doctor Harimanana Rasoanarimalala, head of the animal health service.
