The average yield increased by more than 5 tonnes per hectare in the 11 previous regions where the project is working. The number of irrigated plains has been increased by more than 50. More than 37,000 farmers have been trained...
These are just some of the things that happened at the third meeting of the project's coordinating committee, which presented a report on the work carried out over the last agricultural year and recommended the renewal of the working model for the next one.
A great deal of effort has gone into achieving these results. Papriz has supported the rice production chain in the model sites. More than 100 water user associations have received support. There are also 17 cooperatives, according to Fanja Raharinomena, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. The strategy for future rice exports has also been established. This represents a new commercial opportunity on the international market, and also strengthens Madagascar's position as a rice producer.
