More than 14,000 cattle earrings will be placed in the districts of Amboasary Atsimo and Taolagnaro before the end of this year. 6700 of them are for Taolagnaro district while 7900 are for Amboasary Atsimo. However, farmers still need to be sensitized to achieve the goal.
The LITS project, which the Malagasy government and IFC or International Finance Corporation, are implementing is a project and a new way to know the cattle and their place of origin by placing electronic earrings. The projects they support are part of the program they finance, in Madagascar, on food production professions, or Agribusiness.
At the level of the local situation, the breeders of the Anosy Region, in particular those of the Districts of Taolagnaro and Amboasary Atsimo, actively participate in the installation of electronic ear tags for cattle. But it took a lot of campaigning to get them to this point. Local awareness was the main reason ranchers were interested in putting earrings on their cattle. For the District of Taolagnaro, for example, the breeders of Ampasy Hanampoina and Soanierana are busy installing this earring. Farmers are active in the project. Seven Fokontany from Ampasy Nahampoina are taking part, said Mr. Mbola Albert, president of the association of Soavola breeders.
The delegation led by the General Director of Livestock came down to see the progress of the work and build the capacities of the actors in these two districts, concerned by the project. The local authorities have reinforced the sensitization of the population in the implementation. There is still a lot of effort to be made to reach the goal, said general manager of breeding, Lezoma Tsiry Andriamahatola
