Rice farmers in Bas-Mangoky have experienced the experience of selecting varieties for the 2018-2019 cropping season so that they can make a choice corresponding to their preferences for seed production in the next cropping season.

The production, availability and accessibility of Certified seed should help meet the pressing needs of producers. To know this, they should be involved in the actual selection of varieties so that they can make a choice corresponding to their preferences. This is participatory varietal selection, better known under the Anglo-Saxon term PVS or "Participatory Varietal Selection".

Africa Rice and its partners, including the FOFIFA Research Centre, are helping to increase rice production in the southwest, and are supporting farmers through this project with the Malagasy government in Bas-Mangoky.
