The joint project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Malagasy government in the Sava region has been largely successful. Projects that have reduced the migration of people abroad, especially women.
90% of the women who went to work in the Arab lands were from the Sava region, so the aim of the project was to promote productive linkages to improve their economic and social livelihoods for women. Its duration was two years and ended on March 15, 2022.
Through the creation of Club DIMITRA, a group of activists, the community was persuaded to get involved in development. Mr. Randriamaho Valerien, who lives in Fokontany Antohobalo, Andampa District, said it has paid off because of the many works that have been done.
Among those who supported the project in the Sava region were those from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, who had positive results, said the secretary general, Fanja Raharinomena.
A total of 600 women from the Region took part. The established strategy of convincing women to stay in their Region, rather than seek work elsewhere, has paid off. The change in everyone's attitude is one of the main benefits of the work of Club DIMITRA, indicated the coordinator of Fokontany Antanambe, Commune Ambodiangezoka, District Andapa, Razanavolamanana Olga. The members were convinced that the process would continue even after the end of the project.
