Before the colonial period, the Malagasy and natural forests still existed and were good, but later it was ravaged and replaced by foreign trees. In the old days, there were few bush and forest fires and also the practice of cultivating on burnt land, the plants grew and became interdependent. Causes of environmental degradation: First, neglect of Malagasy culture, to say nothing of the forest, e.g. "Bemarivo-Ampasy Reserve"; second, unregulated and uncontrolled migration; third, inadequate and superficial state decisions on exploitation; and fourth, the practice of slash-and-burn agriculture and charcoal....
10 December marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Declaration on the Human Rights to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. This year also marks the 72nd anniversary of human rights. The basic rights to water and sanitation: first, adequate water for individuals, second, clean water free of impurities that may be harmful to health, third, safe cleaning i.e. separation of wastewater and human waste, fourth, water points that can be used permanently, fifth, water at an affordable price, sixth, access to water without discrimination.
At the end of its second General Assembly, held from 15 to 18 October 2024, the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace sent a message to government officials at all levels, as well as to all Malagasy and all people of goodwill.
