A fundamental element of the common good is respect for and awareness of fundamental human rights. The common good gives rise to rights and obligations for the whole human generation. Each group of people must take care of the reasonable needs and desires of other groups of people. Humanity is superior to things and is based on respect for rights. The first patron saint of the island of Madagascar is Marie Immaculée, celebrated every 8 December. September 27th is the feast day of Saint Vincent de Paul, the island's second patron saint, who was a protector and an example of charity. He was only 19 years old and already a priest. Charity is the character of God that Saint Vincent de Paul lived. Pope Francis is one of those who live this love for the poor, and he has even written a document in which he talks about the Church and poverty, entitled "Evangelii Gaudium".
