03 August - Lydia of Thyatira was a purple trader based in Philippes, Macedonia. Initially a Greek Jewess, she "clung to the words of the apostle Paul" (Acts 16, 14). Together with her family, she received baptism and offered hospitality to Paul. She is not mentioned elsewhere in the New Testament texts.

"One of them named Lydia, a purple cloth merchant from the city of Thyatira, who worshipped the one God, was listening. The Lord opened her mind to make her listen to what Paul was saying. When she was baptized, she and all the people of her house made this invitation to us: "If you have recognized my faith in the Lord, then come into my house and dwell there". This is how she forced our hand".
