Friday August 13, 2021 - Nineteenth week of Ordinary Time - Accept the word of God: for what it really is: not a word of men, but the word of God - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 19, 3-12

Today's gospel focuses on Christ's teaching relating to marriage. Marriage, which is not a human invention, but a divine institution; also, it does not depend on opinion or on the understanding that man has of it and even less on custom. He who created man, also instituted marriage; this is Jesus' response to the Pharisee who wanted to tempt him, and what God has united no one can undo, he insists.

Indeed, since marriage is not the act of man, its objective is therefore not reduced to the spouses alone, but spreads and expresses the mystery that it reveals, namely, the great wonder that God has performed. for men, the expression of the fact that he is God of Love and the way in which Christ loved and saved us by giving himself for us. This must be the way of life that spouses must adopt every day: respecting their commitments, remaining faithful to each other and loving as God loved us.

Through the sacrament of marriage, God diffuses the grace which sanctifies the spouses, which demands of them a life which is constantly renewed. May marriage not be a mere one-day wonder, but may it be the keystone on which every household rests and the path that leads the family towards holiness.
