Wednesday July 21, 2021 - Sixteenth week in Ordinary Time - The seed is the word of God, the sower is Christ; whoever finds it remains forever - Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 13, 1-9

"He who has ears, let him hear!" This parable confronts us with the many ways in which men receive the word of God. On the one hand, there are those who are deaf to the word of God. Willingly deaf are those who stop their ears so as not to hear the word of God, because of prejudices. But there are also those who are deafened by the din of this world, no longer being able to discern the discreet breath of the Spirit, thus losing landmarks and haunts.

On the other hand, there are many who receive the word of God and then turn it into an instrument of rhetoric. Wrongly, we think that by dint of arguing with a plethora of biblical quotes, we can only be right. Let us not forget that the Evil One knows skillfully how to use the word of God to sow confusion in the mind of man.

Finally, we often listen to the word of God, but in a distracted way, without real conviction. We even end up losing patience, because absorbed by the grind of daily life. How many are really interested in the word of God broadcast in the media? How many can hold a concertation during the celebration of the Word and during the sharing in the Church?

Dear Christians, the word of God is sacred, living and powerful. It is announced in all times and in all places. She is the source which nourishes and animates the Church. It is revealed to us, let us make it incarnate in our life. Amen.
