On this 25 january, we celebrate the conversion of Saint Paul, Paul is a jew of the line of Benjamin.Born in Tarse (Cilicie), he met regularly Greeks and lived inthe Roman Republic. At the school of Tarsus he studied only literature, then he went to Jerusalem to study at the school of Gamaliel.
A fervent persecutor of Christian like his father, Saul witnessed te stoning to death of Etienne, he participated to the destruction of the churches in Jerusalem, ti the hunting, imprisonment and torture of the disciples of Christ. His name then was Saul. But on the roads to Damascus, accompanying the soldiers in pursuit of the Christians, he met Jesus, who completely changed his life.
The account of his conversion in the book of Acts 9 can be summarized as follows: It was Saul himself who came to ask the high priest for letters for the synagogues of Damascus, so that he might bring back in chains to Jerusalem all the Christians he could find there. But as he approached Damascus, a blinding light fell upon him, and a voice was heard: "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? After he had asked who it was, the voice replied, "I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting". Frightened, he asked what the voice wanted from him. He was ordered to enter the city and wait for further instructions. Blind, he was guided into the city. For three days, he stayed there, deprived of sight, food, and water.
From this conversion of Saint Paul let us take heed that the power of God is unstoppable.
