The Christian life requires duties to be fulfilled, among which today's readings mention two: the fight against evil spirits and the proclamation of the Reign of God.

Saint Paul reveals to us the weapons that enable us to win victory against the Evil One: being with God because He offers His Word as food and light, He strengthens our faith and He constantly listens to our prayer.

In the Gospel, Jesus shows us how we must proclaim the Kingdom of God: to be free from political power in order to accomplish this mission until our last breath. In his response to some Pharisees, Jesus lets us know that it is God who determines the time and hour and not Herod.
